ON Semiconductor's Malaysia plant has been shut down and its production capacity has been damaged

As a world-renowned semiconductor supplier, ON Semiconductor’s business mainly covers the automotive, industrial, communications and computing, cloud power, and Internet of Things markets. It is reported that the production line of ON Semiconductor’s factory in Seremban supplies 150mm wafers. The products are mainly Discrete device.

On the other hand, ON Semiconductor's discrete device product delivery period has generally reached more than 26 weeks, such as Mosfet, IGBT, etc., the delivery period has been extended to 26-52 weeks, and the delivery period of some logic circuit ICs and image sensor chips has even been extended to 50 weeks. The 14-day shutdown of ON Semiconductor's Malaysian plant has predicted that production capacity will be hit hard and the delay in delivery will become more serious.

Capacitor delivery time extended to 25 weeks

According to Taiwan media reports, TrendForce's survey information shows that the global capacitor market production and supply are facing challenges due to the impact of the Malaysian government's extension of the national action control. The delivery time of international first-tier manufacturers has been extended from 20 weeks to 25 weeks. Affected by the above factors, the global capacitor industry is preparing for the second price increase this year. While the international first-tier manufacturers are gearing up, domestic capacitor manufacturers have not moved.

Analysts said that the first increase in capacitor prices during the year was due to the recovery of the downstream industry driven by vaccines, showing a general pattern of high-, middle- and low-end products. The second increase in the price of capacitors during the year was mainly due to the impact of the Malaysian epidemic, superimposed on my country's bullish demand for high-end capacitors, and the price increase of high-end products from international first-tier manufacturers may be the main reason.

Up to now, the time period of chip shortages has lasted for more than one year, and the upstream wafer capacity is in short supply and cannot be expanded quickly, resulting in multiple types of chips such as MCUs, power management chips, display driver chips, power chips, passive components, etc. The out-of-stock is issued before the serious, and the out-of-stock cycle is expected to continue until 2022.
